The Draymond Green suspension. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving went off. Kevin Love only had 2 points.
Those were all common storylines after Game 5 of the NBA Finals, but many people failed to mention the single most important storyline of the game…
The Cavs wore sleeved jerseys.
The first thing my friend said to me as the game started was, “Why are the Cavs wearing sleeved jerseys? LeBron hates sleeves.”
So that makes it extremely confusing as to why the LeBron James led Cavs would choose to wear them in an NBA Finals do or die game on the road.
Who’s idea was it to even wear them in the first place?
Well, it was James’s idea. Wild.
If you don’t believe that, check out this.
It’s actually interesting stuff. LeBron despised sleeved jerseys in 2014 and 2015, but during the five games he’s worn them in 2016, he has averaged 29 points and shot 54%. Not to mention that he scored 41 last night.
It makes you wonder if LeBron made a conscious effort to get better at shooting in sleeved jerseys during the offseason. And if he did, it is paying off.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cavs decided to wear them at home for Game 6 (if that’s allowed). Keep an eye out for it.
Like this observation? Or Think the jerseys had zero impact on the game?
